I had a friend e-mail me this morning and I thought I would pass part of the e-mail off to you.
“Anyway, if you don’t mind sharing….. I was wondering how your family celebrates Christmas? Do you make gifts? Buy gifts? Only give a certain number? Do something rather than get something? It is very interesting to hear from other people what they do….”
So what do you do?
On to other business, I am sorry I have been a lazy blogger lately, but I have a few posts up my sleeves including pictures from Thanksgiving…..stay tuned!
We give lots and lots of presents to the kids who are still home. But those presents are usually things they need like towels, sheets, socks, undies, coats, school supplies, shampoo, razors, the like. Plus, we give one surprise, a book, and a game. My boys are still home but are adults and buy all their own clothes, shampoo, and such. They love getting a little boost to their budget this way, but they loved it, when they were little as well.
I see Christmas as a fun, magical time for my kids. And since we don't buy them toys throughout the year except on birthdays, I see Christmas as a time to give them a few fun toys etc. Santa brings each child 1 toy. The rest of their gifts come from family. This year my kids will be making something for each other, mommy and daddy and grandparents.
I provide for their needs throughout the year so I let them have one day of excitement where they might just get that toy they have been talking about for months.
Christmas is also when we get games, books, puzzles etc. They go under the tree but they are for everyone in the family, things we do together as a family throughout the year.
So Aimee, what do you guys do? You did not share.
this year with money being tight we are doing a homemade christmas. i am making each of the kids a couple of things (homemade ugly dolls and some sewn things for their room and crocheted hair accessories). they drew each other's names and will make their person a gift. and by the way…are you REALLY moving?
Lisa, no we are not moving. Although I would love to have a farm somewhere, we just don't have the cash to do it yet. Mike was just getting back at me for something funny I posted using his facebook acct.
