Work

“Fewer and fewer parents ask their children to do chores around the house because they think they are already overwhelmed by social and academic pressures. More indulgence of children may result in less understanding of life”

  1. I just had my 2 do the same thing to a bunch of green beans that we will can up today. They also helped pick them this morning along with a bunch of other things. One just got done puuting dishes away. It is good for them to do chores it helps them know what it is going to be like as adults.
When I cooked at girls camp you could tell the ones who didn't do household chores to the ones who did. They had not a clue how to clean the kitchen or even to just jump in and start doing stuff.

  2. I work at a fairly affluent private high school, and I can definitely tell when kids have never had to do work for themselves. They look at you with a deer-in-the-headlights look when you tell them it is not okay to throw their trash on the floor. I actually had one kid tell me it was someone else's job to pick it up – that's what janitors get paid for.

  3. I love this quote! It's so true and can be a challenge to stand against culture. My kids are learning SO much through chores and more responsibility in the home and with the animals…

  4. My daughter is 3 and already is a pro at preparing fresh green beans. She eats most of them in the process but still enjoys sitting down with me. I love the quote, thank you for sharing.
