Life around our house has been crazy and confusing. There has been a lot going on and so our normal day-to-day routines have been disrupted. for some people that is no big deal, they just cope and move on. For me it can be major! I am like a big ‘ol plow horse, slow and steady, happy to plug along day after day. When something changes can usually adjust, but when there are changes day after day after day it just completely throws me off and it can take days to get back to normal.
Because of the weeks worth of different, our home and family has been under some strain. My house doesn’t have the calm sense of well being that I try to create. So this morning as I was looking into my living room I decided that I was going to create some calm.
Here is the before picture. The living room isn’t dirty, just messy.
I looked at the clock and started my clean up. It took about an hour and a half, I had several interruptions. I am now home schooling my oldest, so I had to stop a few times to help her and then I had some surprise guests arrive for a short time. I know I could have done it in about half that time had I been uninterrupted.
Here is the room finished:
(p.s. do you like the color of the walls…it is new! I have before and after pictures coming soon!)
I love that you posted these pictures! What a difference! I know that if I can just pick up and run the vacuum, it makes the WORLD of difference in how I feel! (even if no one else seems to care)
BTW, love the color! but you knew that already!
and another thing…I just posted a picture of punk #2…I’ll email you some that I took!
I really like the color on the walls. I am dying for color. Right now we live in a rental and the walls and carpet are white and its killing me.
I didn’t use to be so great at housework, but then I realized how much happier I am when the house is clean and how much more peace is in the house and I’m much better now.
I love the color of your walls!!
Your living room looks so cozy. Love it!
Tell me about routines being interrupted. This past month has been so crazy around here and I’ve wanted to go running to the hills a few times. Things are kinda falling into new routines (different because husband is home all day right now) and it is nice. I feel so much more stressed and on edge when I have a messy house.
How are you and your daughter adjusting to home school?
I would love to hear more about homeschooling and your experience with teaching one child at home, or are the others not in school yet? Was it hard to pull her out? How old is she? I have been praying/thining about this for a year now, but I love our christian school and im torn.
I know it’s a long comment , but something I am passionately debating. Anyway, I enjoy your blog and nice room;)
I love the color and good job on the clean up! I always feel better in a clean house. If only I felt like cleaning it today 🙂 I’m like you, my house isn’t dirty, just messy.
LOVE the wall color!
LOVE the wall color–it’s beautiful! Details please:)
Blessings, Aimee
Gorgeous room!! And ITA that it makes a huge difference to have things neat and tidy. Even my kids have commented on that. Now if only I could get them to actually do something about it…
I was going to ask if that was a new color! I love it!
It’s so hard when things get out of kilter. With a big family all it really takes is for each person to leave a a few things and the mess is mind-boggling. I hope you like homeschooling. It was the most wonderful experience of my life. I’m sad my last one is leaving for BYU in a couple weeks.
I love the color on your walls. I’m sure that there was a tangible feeling of peace when you finished cleaning up. Five years ago we completely remodeled our house and lived in it at the same time! It was so difficult to live with the constant disruption and chaos. I think we all need order to help the Spirit dwell with us.
I love the difference a quick clean up can make. It calms the whole household down.
