What To Do?

I have been doing this walking bed rest thing for a week now, and in some ways it is really nice, in others, it is driving me up the wall!

It is nice because I am not confined to bed.  I can get out, go to church, go to dinner, be with the family, cook and do light housekeeping.  It is driving me up the wall because I can’t do anything heavy or strenuous or tire myself out.  Basically, I get up, do light housekeeping, maybe some small loads of laundry then spend the rest of the day sitting, when I want to be cleaning closets and getting ready for Baby.
Which sounds pretty nice, right!
It is pretty nice, but sometimes I get restless and a little depressed.
I have started to crochet to pass some of the time, and it makes me feel like I am doing something to get ready for Baby.
Have you ever been on bed rest?
What did you do to keep your spirits up and pass the time?

The Bench

He must love me lots…..
To go along with all my hair brain schemes.
I wanted to learn how to use all of Dadzoo’s power tools and make all sorts of wonderful furniture.
We started with a very simple bench.
I cut out all the wood,
I used a power tool.
And that,
was where I quit.
When all the measuring and fitting and such and putting together started happening.
I, not wanting to bruise his male ego,
graciously stepped down.
(whew!)
Between you and me
I was glad to let him just do it.
From now on, I will let him do the building
and I will do the finishing.

Isn’t it cute.
Pictures of the finished product coming soon!

Repurposing a Man’s Shirt

This is my husbands nice white shirt he wears to church.

He has had it for just over three years, it lasts a long time because it is only worn to church, however it was starting to show a little wear. Here on the collar, at the crease the fabric was starting to fray.

Then the other night he sat down and bent his arm, and his elbow went right through the sleeve. This isn’t something that I could fix without it being very, noticeable. I could patch it and Dadzoo could use this as a working shirt, for dirty outdoor job, but he already had several of those, so I decided that it needed to be repurposed.

Dadzoo is a big guy, so there is a lot of really good material that is in great condition.

The only question, is what to do with it.

First, I cut off all the buttons.

And added them to my stash of buttons. I got this tin from my Grandma, it has buttons that she collected, and now I add my own.

Then I searched for ways to reuse a man’s shirt, and these are some of the things I found:

and
Wow, now I only need to decide….
(I am feeling like that shirt really wants to become a frilly summer apron…hmmmm.)

Usually I have cut up shirts to make into rags that I use in cleaning or for medicinal purposes. However I am trying to only use 100% cotton for such things now, and this shirt isn’t all cotton. The Polyester in the cloth makes it less absorbent and less breathable, two things I look for in my cleaning rags, handkerchiefs and bandages.

So here he sits, waiting for me to decide exactly what he is going to be in his next life…

( I am still thinking something with pink ruffles)

Making Pretties

When I was little we called all little hair bobbers
“Pretties”

For Valentines Day my oldest girls and I made pretties for our hair.

Do you remember in the ’80’s (oh, dated myself) when these little guys were popular.

I had a pair of blue ones, with beads and feathers on the end.

(yuck!)

However, I think these turned out really cute!

Making Christmas

This Christmas season Dadzoo’s parents are across the country in Maryland serving a mission for out church. So we sent them a Christmas care package.

Every year for Christmas Dadzoo goes with my Uncles, Cousins and Brothers-in-law to cut Christmas trees at my uncles ranch in Wyoming. It has been a family tradition to send fresh trees through the mail to the missionaries in the family. Fresh trees have been sent to New Zealand and Argentina! So in the spirit of tradition we sent a live Christmas trees through the US postal service to Dadzoo’s parents in Maryland.

So Grandma and Grandpa Dadzoo would have a nicely decorated tree the kids spend an afternoon making ornaments to trim the tree.

The next day a long package was stuffed with a small live Christmas tree and along with another box filled with gifts and all the ornaments were sent off.

Two days later the packages arrived at the Mission office, Dadzoo’s Mom said she could smell the tree through the box!

Here is a picture of their little tree.

Merry Christmas!
