I Have another Confession
Yes, I bought nine boxes of
Girl Scout Cookies.
So leave me alone, I have a date with a cookie!
It was all about healthy eating and how if we want our kids to eat healthy then we need to only have healthy items for them to eat. That we need to only offer healthy items so they learn to like them.
Most of the time I am pretty careful about what I serve my kids. We really don’t eat a lot of junk…
really, truly, we don’t!
But then these lovely items presented themselves.
How can I say no to a good, worthy cause such as this!
Punk Kid
Today when we started out after lunch and after my kindergartner left for school I decided to stop at sonic for a big ‘ol diet coke with a squirt of vanilla. I was hoping that my 3 year old punk would be asleep, but no such luck. This is the conversation we had as I pulled up to the drive in.
“mama, I get somfin?”
“No honey, only for mama.”
“why!”
“Because you are a punk kid.”
“I no punk kid, I da baba grill.”
“no, really you are just a punk kid.”
“no, I not, I booful grill, I da baba grill!”
(at this time I spy a 99 cent dish of ice cream on the menu and order one along with my big fat diet coke, we pull up to the window and she see the lady hand me the ice cream)
“hey wa dat icreem for?”
“for mama”
“not for me?”
“no”
“why?”
“you are a punk kid.”
“dis punk kid like icreem!”
“she does?”
“ya!”
This is when I hand her the little dish of ice cream and a spoon. You would have thought I had given her diamonds! She made it last the whole shopping trip.
You gotta love those little punks…or “bootiful grills”
Amazing
Let me tell you all about it.
I woke up this morning at 6 am. I got dressed, did my hair and make-up perfectly. I turned on the shower so the water would be warm and quietly kissed my PIC awake. After about 10 minutes of lovin PIC showered with a smile on his face, as I went to start breakfast. On the menu today: French toast, bacon, fresh fruit (delivered this morning from my local organic farmers co-op) freshly squeezed orange juice, and milk. Once I got breakfast stared I woke up the little girls, kissed them, and sent them to set the table with a playful swat on the bottom. I went down stairs and woke the older girls, who cheerfully got up and got dressed, they chatted happily together as they picked out perfectly matched, perfectly pressed outfits and came up-stairs for breakfast. We all studied the scriptures and had an amazing gospel discussion before I served hot French toast with melting butter and powder sugar. Breakfast was pleasant.
After the older girls scurried off to clean their room and practice piano. I sent PIC off to work with a lunch (roast chicken, mashed potatoes, cookies, money for a drink and a tossed salad) and a kiss; he waved to the kids as he got in his car. While the girls were doing their morning chores I started working on mine. I got the dishes done, the counters wiped off, two loads of laundry washed, dried, folded and put away. Then I sent the girls off to school at 8:30 with perfectly styled hair, and a kiss on their freshly washed faces.
I then made all the bed, got the little kids dressed, combed and washed. I put the baby down for his nap in a neat and tidy room. The little girls read books quietly while I did my own personal scripture study complete with prayer and journal writing. When I was done with that I scrubbed the toilets, washed the floors and vacuumed the house. After my chores were done the little girls and I sang primary songs while we folded socks and panties together. Then I made lunch, leftovers from last night, roast chicken, mashed potatoes and a toss salad; the salad was their favorite part!
About noon we all put our coats on and I bundled up the baby in a coat, gloves and hat. We walked kindergarten punk to the bus stop and after we waved her good-bye we went on a two mile walk to get our exercise. We got home at about 1:00, my little baby girl punk scampered off to nap while I rocked and sang the baby to sleep. I ate lunch really quickly, a freshly toss salad with lemon juice, and now I am taking a blogging break before I finish the laundry, iron, and clean out a couple of closets before I have to stop and make an afternoon snack for the school kids.
Now, are you all rolling your eyes!!!
Haha!
Do you want to hear the real story?
I woke up about 10 minutes before PIC got out of the shower, I yelled at the little kids to wake up, I stomped on the floor to wake up the older girls. I picked up the baby and gave him a bottle in his high chair as I made a quick pot of oatmeal. We ate quickly while PIC read a verse of scripture. One of the big girls practiced piano while I argued with my oldest about how sick she said she was. I finally told her she could stay home from school, but if she was sick enough to stay home she had to stay in bed, no movies, no toys, nothing. She got well really quickly. I sent PIC to work with a kiss and a lunch (sandwich, granola bar and an orange which I am sure will still be there tonight). The big kids did get their piano done, but their room is a mess, their hair is done, but whether the outfits match, that is questionable. Once they left I plunked baby boy in bed for his nap, turned on a movie for the little girls and put in a load of laundry. Then, I went back to bed, yes, I went back to bed! When I got up about an hour later, we all got dressed, combed and picked up bedrooms. The kids got a PB&J for lunch and I sent the kindergartner off to the bus with her two friends (I hope they don’t miss it!) So here I am, blogging when I have toilets to clean, floors to scrub, scriptures to study, laundry to fold, iron and put away! You know what? I don’t really care! HA!
House keeping tip…..
I will be posting another recipe tonight, and I promise I promptly swept the floor after taking this picture….
(Ok I must defend myself a little, this picture was taken right after I got the big kids off to school, so I hadn’t swept yet after breakfast. One of the minor annoyances of baking my own bread is that it is really crumbly, and this is the result!)
