Vacation, day 2

On the second day of our vacation we went in to Yellowstone Park.

Yellowstone is one of my favorite places to visit. I love the wild life, the beauty and I think the geological features are fascinating. I am amazed at the power of this earth.

We started on the lower loop, it has most of the geological features (hot pot, mud pot, geysers, steam vents…etc).

The beauty and power of it all is stunning

This is “Old Faithful” the most well known geyser in the world.

They call this feature “Dragons Cave” You can hear the water slapping agents the sides of the cave deep down in the earth, there is also a low hissing sound as the steam comes out. It seriously sounds and looks like there is a Dragon inside.

The highlight of the day (besides Old Faithful) was this little beauty we found on a little side road.

He was back in the trees so we stopped for a little bit to watch him. I was amazed how quickly the park rangers got there. They needed to watch to make sure the people weren’t doing anything stupid (like walking towards the bear…which they were!). The bear turned and started coming towards the road and the rangers made us all get in our cars and move along. It was really neat to see and the kids loved it.

We stopped in West Yellowstone on our way back to the cabin for dinner and got home at about 11:00. Completely exhausted!

Day Lilies

Right after the roses are finished with their first round of blossoms the Day Lilies start their show.

Day Lilies are so pretty for many different reasons.

There are hundreds of different varieties and colors

You can pretty much find a variety to suit your tastes

They are relatively in expensive for the type of plant you are getting.

They last for years and years and get bigger each year.

Most of my Day Lilies I got for free from my parents when they divided theirs.
It is easy to find a neighbor of friend to get starts from, and they transplant very well.

However, I have seen some varieties in catalogues that are hundreds of dollars!

They grow in nice big bushes
in a matter of a few seasons they will fill in any spot.

They love full sun and can be grown just about anywhere

The only draw back, the blossom only lasts a day

hence the name
Day Lily

A Morning Ramble

I was up most of last night with a restless baby. So when I woke up at 6:30 I tried really, really hard to go back to sleep, but I couldn’t, I was just wide away. I got up and made a special treat for breakfast and just enjoyed the quiet house. I took a short walk outside, I love the gardens in the morning, and decide to take a few pictures to share.
